Stardate 45076.3 in the TNG episode "Ensign Ro", the Bajorans have
been depicted as a highly spiritual race recently freed from 40 years of oppression.
Struggling to rebuild a shattered world after the withdrawl of Cardassian occupational troops, the Bajoran Provisional Government asked for the help of the Federation, and a Starfleet presence soon established itself on Deep Space Nine.
