Stardate 48211.6 in the Deep Space Nine episode "The Search", the
Changeling race is one of the most biologically distinct species yet encountered.
Though Constable
Odo is a Changeling, he himself did not know of the full extent of capabilities
that are possible in a Changeling until he visited the homeworld of his people.
They are xenophobic
in the extremest sense, fearing all other species would harm them unless they
conquered them first.
Thus, the Dominion was founded, and the Changelings who operated the Dominion called themselves the "Founders".
